Yodeck is a good digital signage platform. But it is a platform you pay, every month, forever — and for a lot of venues that is the wrong shape. Here are the five alternatives worth looking at, what each one is actually best at, and where each of them beats us.
In our experience it usually comes down to one of four things.
Per-screen pricing compounds. Ten screens is ten times one screen, every month, and the screen never gives anything back. Flat-rate tiers or a revenue share change that maths.
A screen in a busy venue is advertising inventory that nobody is selling. If people are standing in front of it, it can be earning rather than idling.
Free players tied to annual commitments, or proprietary boards you have to buy before you can start, both limit how fast and how cheaply you can roll out.
Most vendors quote US dollars and bill you in them. If you are in Canada or Nigeria, being billed in CA$ or naira at locally set prices matters.
Entry-level pricing as published by each vendor on 2 August 2026. Note the currencies differ — CA$10 and US$10 are not the same amount of money.
| Platform | Entry price | Free tier | Pays you back? |
|---|---|---|---|
| VYPΛ® | CA$10 / screen / month ₦5,000 in Nigeria |
30-day trial | Yes — 70% of net ad revenue |
| Yodeck | US$8 / screen / month | Free forever, 1 screen | No |
| OptiSigns | US$10 / screen / month | Free, up to 3 screens, branded | No |
| ScreenCloud | US$20 / screen / month | Trial only | No |
| BrightSign | Hardware + US$139 / player / year | Free tooling, hardware required | No |
| Xibo | Free self-hosted | Open source | No |
Ranked by how well they solve the problem that sends people looking in the first place.
CA$10 / screen / month · ₦5,000 in Nigeria
The only platform here that works in both directions. It is a full signage CMS — playlists, layouts, scheduling, remote monitoring — and it also lets you enrol those same screens in an advertising network and keep 70% of the net advertising revenue they earn, paid monthly. For a cafe, salon, gym or clinic, that can turn the monthly subscription from a cost line into a net gain. You can also buy advertising on other venues' screens from the same account.
US$10 / screen / month · free up to 3 screens
The most generous free plan in the category at three screens, though it displays OptiSigns branding on the screen. Deep app and integration catalogue, and a clear ladder up into kiosk and interactive use cases. A pure CMS — it will not earn you anything.
US$20 / screen / month
Polished and enterprise-focused, with mature integrations, dashboards, professional design support and structured onboarding. If you are rolling out hundreds of screens with a dedicated internal comms team it is a serious platform. For a single venue it is expensive for what you will actually use.
Hardware purchased per screen · bsn.content US$139 / player / year
Hardware-first rather than cloud-first. The players are purpose-built, solid-state and widely trusted for demanding installations — 4K video walls, interactive fixtures, harsh environments. Usually specified by AV integrators. You buy a player for every screen before anything appears on it.
Free self-hosted · paid cloud tiers available
Open source, so free to run if you have the technical capacity to host and maintain it yourself. Mature and capable, with a commercial cloud option if you would rather not self-host. The real cost is your own time: servers, updates, security patching and support are all yours.
A buyer's guide that never says anything good about the incumbent is a sales page. Here is the honest version.
It depends on what you need. If you want your screens to earn advertising revenue rather than only cost you a subscription, VYPΛ® is the only platform on this list that does that. If you want a permanently free single screen, Yodeck itself is hard to beat. If you need a very large integration catalogue, OptiSigns is strong. If you need purpose-built hardware for video walls, BrightSign is the right call.
OptiSigns offers a permanent free tier for up to three screens, though it shows OptiSigns branding on the display. Xibo is open source and free to self-host if you have the technical capacity to run it. VYPΛ® offers a 30-day free trial rather than a permanent free plan, so if free-forever is your requirement we are not the best fit and we will say so.
VYPΛ Basic is CA$10 per screen per month, or ₦5,000 per month for Nigerian accounts. Yodeck Basic is US$8 per screen per month. Those are different currencies, so the gap is smaller than the raw numbers suggest. The more useful comparison is net cost: a VYPΛ screen enrolled in our host network earns back 70% of the net advertising revenue it generates, which no Yodeck plan does.
Yes. Media files and schedules can be rebuilt on VYPΛ, and most compatible devices can be repointed to our player without buying new hardware. VYPΛ runs on Android, Amazon Fire OS, Samsung Tizen and LG webOS. Contact us with your setup and we will walk you through it.
No. Yodeck's free player is Raspberry Pi based. VYPΛ supports Android, Amazon Fire OS, Samsung Tizen and LG webOS, and sells the VYPΛ Android Stick at CA$49.99 and Android Box at CA$69.99. If Raspberry Pi is a hard requirement for you, Yodeck is the better fit.
Because we also operate an advertising marketplace. Advertisers buy campaigns on VYPΛ Advertise, those campaigns play on screens enrolled in the VYPΛ Host network, and the venue keeps 70% of the net revenue. Signage-only vendors have no advertiser demand to share, which is why none of them offer it. Earnings are never guaranteed — see section 6.10 of our Terms of Service.
Thirty days free on one screen. Add advertising revenue when you are ready — or never, it is entirely optional.
