Setting up a VYPA Player

How to set up a VYPA player on any screen

Last updated on September 27, 2026

Introduction

The VYPĪ› Player is a powerful application that transforms any compatible device into a digital signage display. This guide will walk you through the complete installation and setup process in just 6 simple steps.

Whether you're setting up for a retail store, restaurant, office, or event space, the VYPA Player makes digital signage deployment quick and hassle-free.

1

Download VYPA Player

First, download the VYPA Player application on your display device by visiting packages.vypa.co and selecting your preferred package and orientation. We support multiple platforms to ensure compatibility with your existing hardware.

  • Android: One APK covers Android TV, tablets and phones — it detects the device and picks landscape or portrait at runtime. Also on Google Play.
  • Raspberry Pi: A full OS image for Raspberry Pi 4 and 5 — a complete operating system, not an app.
  • Samsung smart TVs (Tizen): New — VYPA Digital Signage Player is now on the Samsung Smart TV app store. Read the story.
  • Amazon Fire TV: On the Amazon Appstore.
  • Web Player: Runs in any browser — Samsung, LG, Hisense, Chromecast, laptops and tablets. Nothing to install.
  • Coming soon: LG webOS (LG Content Store), VIDAA (Hisense) and Roku, which also covers Hisense and TCL Roku TVs.

Pro Tip:

Choose the version that matches your device. For a screen that runs all day, a dedicated player such as a Raspberry Pi 4 or 5, or a VYPΛ Android Stick or Box, is the most reliable choice.

2

Check System Requirements

Before installation, ensure your device meets the minimum system requirements for optimal performance:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Processor: Dual-core 1.5 GHz or better
  • RAM: 2GB minimum (4GB recommended)
  • Storage: 500MB free space
  • Display: HDMI output or compatible display connection
  • Network: Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection (Ethernet recommended)
  • Resolution: Supports 720p to 4K displays

Recommended Setup:

  • Raspberry Pi 4 or 5 (4GB or 8GB model), or a VYPΛ Android Stick or Box
  • Wired Ethernet connection for reliability
  • Dedicated power supply with surge protection
  • Cooling solution for 24/7 operation

Installation Process

Once you've downloaded the VYPA Player, follow these steps to install it on your device:

For Android (TV, tablet or phone):

  1. Download the APK from packages.vypa.co, or install from Google Play
  2. If you used the APK, allow installs from your browser or file manager when prompted
  3. Open the APK to install it
  4. Launch VYPA Player — it detects the device and orientation on its own
  5. Enter the pairing code shown on screen into your VYPA dashboard

For Raspberry Pi:

  1. Download the Raspberry Pi image (.img.xz) — there is no need to unzip it
  2. In Raspberry Pi Imager choose Use custom and select the downloaded file
  3. Write it to a 16 GB or larger card and skip the OS customisation prompt
  4. Put the card in the Pi, connect HDMI to the screen, then power on
  5. A QR code appears — scan it with your phone to choose the Wi-Fi network and screen orientation
Two things to know:

Writing the image erases everything on the memory card, so use a blank one or a card you are willing to lose. And leave Ethernet unplugged on first boot if you intend to set up over Wi-Fi — a wired connection puts the screen straight online and it goes to its pairing code without ever showing the QR.

Important:

Make sure your device is connected to the internet before proceeding. VYPA Player requires an active internet connection for initial setup and content delivery.

Register Your Player

After installation, you'll need to register your player with your VYPA account to start displaying content.

  1. Launch the VYPA Player application
The app will display a unique pairing code on screen
  2. Log in to your VYPA dashboard
Visit app.vypa.co and sign in to your account
  3. Navigate to Screens section
Click on "Add New Screen" in your dashboard
  4. Name your Screen
Give your Screen a memorable name (e.g., "Store Front Display", "Lobby Screen") and choose it's type
  5. Enter the pairing code
Type the code shown on your display into the dashboard
  6. Confirm registration
Your player will automatically connect and appear in your dashboard

Note:

The pairing code expires after 5 minutes. If it expires, simply restart the VYPA Player app to generate a new code.

5

Connect to Your Network

Ensuring a stable network connection is crucial for reliable content delivery. VYPA Player supports both wired and wireless connections.

Ethernet Connection (Recommended):

  • Connect an Ethernet cable from your router to the player device
  • The connection will be established automatically
  • Check the network status indicator in the VYPA Player interface

Wi-Fi Connection:

  1. Ensure your device has network connection
  2. Navigate to your Device's Network Settings
  3. Select your Wi-Fi network from the list
  4. Enter your Wi-Fi password
  5. Confirm connection
Network Requirements:

For smooth HD content playback, we recommend a minimum bandwidth of 5 Mbps. For 4K content, ensure you have at least 25 Mbps available.

Firewall & Port Configuration:

If you're behind a corporate firewall, ensure these ports are open:

HTTPS: Port 443 (Required)
WebSocket: Port 8080 (Required)
RTMP Streaming: Port 1935 (Optional for live streams)
6

Final Configuration

Complete the setup by configuring your display preferences and content assignments.

Display Settings:

  • Resolution: Set to match your display (auto-detected by default)
  • Orientation: Choose landscape or portrait mode
  • Timezone: Select your local timezone for accurate scheduling
  • Screen Saver: Configure idle behavior (optional)

Content Assignment:

From your VYPA dashboard:

  1. Select your newly registered player
  2. Assign a playlist or campaign to the player
  3. Set a content schedule (or use 24/7 playback)
  4. Save your changes

Your content will begin displaying automatically within 30 seconds. You can now manage all content remotely from your VYPA dashboard.
