ICPC Arraigns Alleged Fake PFIPC Director-General on 22 Counts

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned Adeniyi Adeyemi before the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja over 22 counts of alleged forgery and impersonation relating to his claim to be the director-general of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).

ICPC Alleges Forged Appointment Letter

According to the prosecution, Adeyemi allegedly forged a letter dated around March 8, 2024, referenced SH/COS/209/A/3456, purportedly issued by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, appointing him as the council's director-general.

The commission alleged that the document was presented to secure government recognition and legitimacy for activities it described as fraudulent. The alleged offences are punishable under Section 364 of the Penal Code, Cap. 532, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (Abuja) 1990.

ICPC counsel, Fatima Bardi, asked the court to fix a date for the prosecution to open its case against the defendant.

Court Directs Defendant to File Bail Application

Adeyemi's counsel, Ibrahim Angulu, SAN, made an oral application for his client's bail. However, the trial judge, Justice Halilu Yusuf, directed him to submit a written application.

Angulu told the court that Adeyemi had spent 155 days in detention and was experiencing health concerns. He said he had a medical report from the police clinic where his client had been receiving treatment.

The judge adjourned the case until November 9 for trial and possible consideration of the bail application.

The allegations against Adeyemi are yet to be determined by the court.
