APC Denies Claims That Tinubu’s Ministers Paid Billions for Appointments

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied allegations that ministers serving under President Bola Tinubu paid billions of naira to secure their appointments.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, made the clarification during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, insisting that the controversial remarks by APC chieftain Alwan Hassan referred to previous administrations, not the current government.

Controversial Comments Spark Reactions

Hassan, a spokesperson for the APC Presidential Campaign Council, had alleged during an interview with Arise News that some ministers pay substantial sums to secure government appointments and later seek to recover the money after assuming office.

He argued that the alleged practice was not limited to the APC, but did not identify any minister who had made such payments or provide specific evidence of the purported transactions.

His comments triggered questions about whether financial inducements influenced ministerial appointments and who might have received the alleged payments.

APC Says Remarks Referred to Past Administrations

Morka said Hassan’s comments had been taken out of context and wrongly interpreted as an allegation against the Tinubu administration.

According to the APC spokesman, Hassan was speaking generally about previous governments rather than claiming that ministers in Tinubu’s cabinet paid for their positions.

Morka maintained that appointments under Tinubu were based on merit, competence and the ability to deliver, rather than financial inducements. He urged Nigerians to disregard claims suggesting that members of the current cabinet paid billions of naira to secure their appointments.
