Sultan Directs Muslims to Look Out for New Moon on Monday

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has directed Muslims across the country to look out for the new moon of Jumada Assaniya 1448 AH on Monday, November 9, 2026.

Jumada Assaniya, also known as Jumada al-Thani or Jumada al-Akhirah, is the sixth month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

Muslims Asked to Report Crescent Sighting

The Sultanate Council of Sokoto, in a statement issued on Sunday, urged Muslims to begin searching for the crescent on Monday, which corresponds to the 29th day of Jumada al-Ula 1448 AH.

The statement was signed by the Wazirin Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, who also chairs the Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs.

It asked anyone who sights the new moon to report the observation to the nearest district or village head for onward communication to the Sultan.

The council explained that confirmed sighting reports should be channelled through the traditional institutions to enable the Sultan to take the necessary action.

Council Calls for Prayers

The statement also urged Muslims to seek Allah's guidance and assistance in carrying out the religious responsibility.

It concluded with a prayer asking Allah to help the Muslim community fulfil the duty successfully.
