Malo Gusto Edges Closer to Chelsea Exit Amid Reduced Playing Time

Chelsea defender Malo Gusto is increasingly likely to leave Stamford Bridge next year after struggling for regular playing time under new manager Xabi Alonso.

The French right-back was an important part of Chelsea's squad during his first two seasons at the club following his arrival from Olympique Lyonnais. However, his position in the team has changed significantly this season.

Reduced Playing Time Under Alonso

Gusto started three of Chelsea's opening four Premier League matches but has since seen his involvement decline, with Alonso reportedly favouring academy graduate Josh Acheampong at right-back.

Despite Acheampong being unavailable for Sunday's away fixture against Sunderland because of a minor injury, Gusto was named among the substitutes. Summer arrivals Marco Palestra and Pep Chavarria were instead preferred at full-back.

Gusto played just five minutes across Chelsea's five league matches before the Sunderland game, despite captain Reece James also being sidelined through injury.

Manchester City and PSG Monitoring Situation

With James expected to return to full fitness in early 2027, Gusto could face even greater competition for a place in the starting line-up.

Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly monitoring his situation ahead of a possible move next year.

Chelsea are also rumoured to be willing to reduce their €90 million asking price to facilitate a transfer, although no formal deal has been confirmed.

Gusto's future at Stamford Bridge is therefore likely to remain a major talking point as the next transfer window approaches.
