The World Health Organisation (WHO) has said Nigeria currently has no Ebola case following the evacuation of the index patient to Switzerland for continued medical care.
WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr Mohamed Janabi, disclosed this in a statement posted on his verified X handle on Monday.
He said Nigeria would continue monitoring 52 contacts, while Switzerland would take responsibility for the patient’s ongoing care and the monitoring of her husband, identified as contact number 53.
Patient Reportedly Stable
According to Janabi, the patient was clinically stable after Nigerian medical teams managed the acute phase of the illness and stabilised her condition before the evacuation. He said the cross-border arrangement would ensure continued medical care for the patient and follow-up monitoring of those potentially exposed.Contact Monitoring Continues
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) had earlier confirmed an imported Ebola case linked to Uganda and placed 53 contacts under monitoring in Abuja. Although the WHO said Nigeria currently has no Ebola case following the patient’s evacuation, monitoring of the 52 contacts remaining in Nigeria will continue as part of public health surveillance efforts.Daily Post
