American R&B singer Chris Brown has been sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for one year, over an assault involving music producer Abe Diaw at a nightclub in Mayfair, London, in 2023.
Brown, 37, pleaded guilty in July to a charge of affray in connection with the incident.
Victim Sustained Head and Knee Injuries
Diaw required hospital treatment for injuries to his head and knee following the incident.
CCTV footage presented in court showed Brown striking Diaw on the head with a glass bottle.
During sentencing, Judge Tony Baumgartner described the repeated use of the bottle as “plainly dangerous”. Although the incident was brief, the judge said it was also intense.
Brown’s defence barristers described the incident as “ugly and unattractive”, arguing that it was short-lived.
Co-Defendant Also Receives Suspended Sentence
Brown’s co-defendant and vocal coach, 40-year-old Omololu Akinlolu, was sentenced to four months in prison, also suspended for one year.
The sentences mean neither man is required to serve the prison term immediately, provided they comply with the applicable conditions of their suspended sentences.
