The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed that two suspected cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) reported in Adamawa State have tested negative following two rounds of laboratory testing.
The agency's Director-General, Dr Jide Idris, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, saying samples collected from the two individuals in Yola did not show evidence of Ebola infection.
How the Suspected Cases Were Identified
According to the NCDC, the Adamawa State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre received a report in the early hours of October 30, 2026, after two individuals presented with symptoms requiring further investigation.
The individuals were isolated while health authorities initiated public health measures and collected samples for laboratory testing to establish the cause of their illness.
Idris said the agency worked closely with the Adamawa State Government through its Ministry of Health and Human Services to investigate the report and coordinate the response.
FCT Remains Nigeria's Only Confirmed Case
The NCDC Director-General clarified that there is currently no laboratory-confirmed Ebola case in Adamawa State.
He added that the previously confirmed case in the Federal Capital Territory remains the only confirmed Ebola case reported in Nigeria to date.
Idris commended the Adamawa State Commissioner for Health and his team for their prompt response, assuring residents that the NCDC would continue providing technical support to strengthen disease surveillance and response operations.
NCDC Advises Public to Remain Vigilant
The agency urged Nigerians to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information about the suspected cases. It also encouraged the public to rely on official government and public health channels for accurate updates.
Idris advised anyone experiencing symptoms such as fever, severe weakness, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding, particularly after a possible exposure, to seek immediate medical attention.
He also warned against self-medication, urging individuals to inform healthcare workers about relevant travel or contact history and follow professional medical advice.
The NCDC said it would continue monitoring the situation in collaboration with the Adamawa State Government and other stakeholders, providing further updates when verified information becomes available.
