Mr Eazi Claims Chelsea Once Considered Signing Him Alongside Mikel Obi

Nigerian singer Mr Eazi has claimed that Chelsea once considered signing him around the time former Super Eagles midfielder John Obi Mikel was linked with the English Premier League club.

The singer made the revelation during an interview with Beat FM, where he jokingly suggested that he chose music over football because he believed he had a better chance of succeeding as an artiste.

Mr Eazi Explains His Alleged Chelsea Opportunity

Recounting the story, Mr Eazi said he and Mikel were supposedly being considered for Chelsea at the time.

“They were gonna sign me. So it was like me and Mikel Obi,” he said.

He added that he believed Mikel lacked the talent to become a musician, while he could build a successful career in music, joking that he therefore allowed the former footballer to join Chelsea.

The claim was presented humorously during the interview and has not been independently verified.

Singer Says He Is Making Room for Other Artistes

Mr Eazi also connected the story to his current approach to the music industry, saying he was willing to step back from the spotlight after making money from his career and give other musicians an opportunity to shine.

“So with this, with the music too, I had to, like, step back, go make a couple billions and then let other people shine,” he said.

He also mentioned fellow Nigerian singer Seyi Vibez, jokingly describing him as a philosopher because of the message, “Let your brother shine.”

Mikel's Chelsea Career

John Obi Mikel joined Chelsea in 2006 and spent 11 years at the club. During his time in West London, he won two Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League, among other honours.

Mr Eazi, meanwhile, has built a career in Nigerian and international music with popular songs including Leg Over and Pour Me Water.
