Funeral Held for Canadian Soldier Killed in CFB Wainwright Fire

Funeral Held for Canadian Soldier Killed in CFB Wainwright Fire

Family, friends and members of the Canadian Armed Forces are gathering in Vancouver today to honour Private Aidan Goulding, one of four soldiers killed in a fire at a military base in Alberta.

The funeral for the 23-year-old soldier is scheduled to take place at Seaforth Armoury, where loved ones and colleagues will pay their final respects.

Soldier Killed During Training Exercise

Goulding, who served with the 3rd Battalion Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry based in Edmonton, died on October 17, 2026, after a grass fire at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright overtook a live-fire training exercise at a nearby grenade range.

His family and friends remember him as an excellent athlete with a contagious laugh. He had also been looking forward to taking part in a peacekeeping deployment in Latvia.

Four Soldiers Lost Their Lives

Three other soldiers also died in the October 17 incident. They were Private Shaun Farrell, 23, of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan; Private Hayden Lykkemark, 19, of Langley, British Columbia; and Sergeant Morgan Wong, 26, of Edmonton.

The fire also left 39 other people injured, many of whom sustained serious burns.

Goulding's funeral provides an opportunity for his loved ones and fellow service members to remember his life and honour his service.
