Kenya Confirms Second Ebola Case as Contact Tracing Continues

Kenya has confirmed a second Ebola case linked to the country’s first reported patient, prompting health officials to continue monitoring contacts and strengthening measures to limit the spread of the virus.

The second patient, a 39-year-old man and close relative of the first case, was already in quarantine when he developed symptoms. Health authorities said early detection could improve his chances of recovery and reduce the risk of further transmission.

The first patient, a 40-year-old man, died on October 5 after travelling from the Democratic Republic of Congo through Uganda to Kenya. Officials said he had been in contact with 128 people, with efforts continuing to locate and monitor those who had not yet been reached.

Kenyan authorities have urged residents to remain calm but vigilant. Ebola can spread through direct contact with the bodily fluids of an infected person after symptoms develop, making early reporting and appropriate medical care important in controlling outbreaks.
