Iran Warns Renewed War With US Could Last Longer as Trump Threatens More Strikes

Iran has warned that any renewed military confrontation with the United States could last longer than the previous round of fighting, following fresh threats by US President Donald Trump to strike additional targets in the country.

Iranian army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia said on Sunday that Washington would not be able to determine the timing or conditions for ending another conflict.

His warning comes amid renewed tensions between Tehran and Washington, despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to secure an agreement and prevent further escalation in the Middle East.

Trump Threatens Further Strikes on Iranian Targets

Trump recently told reporters at his Florida residence that the United States still had one or two targets to address in Iran, suggesting they could be struck within minutes.

He also referenced Pickaxe Mountain, a suspected underground nuclear facility, as one of the locations that could be targeted.

The threats follow the intense phase of the war that began on February 28 with US-Israeli strikes on Iran. Tehran retaliated with missile and drone attacks across the region, while Iran-aligned armed groups became involved in the fighting in Lebanon and Yemen.

Iranian Officials Issue Fresh Warnings

Iran's military and political leadership has repeatedly warned against further attacks.

Revolutionary Guards spokesman Hossein Mohebbi echoed a warning issued by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, saying any conflict with the United States would have no geographical limitations.

Meanwhile, Iran's security chief, Mohsen Rezaei, disclosed that he had received a letter from US Vice President JD Vance seeking to revive negotiations.

Although Rezaei acknowledged what he described as a positive change in Washington's tone, he said Tehran had yet to respond to the communication.

Iran has maintained that negotiations would depend on conditions including the unfreezing of its assets abroad, the lifting of sanctions, an end to the US naval blockade of Iranian ports and a halt to the war on all fronts.

Regional Leaders Hope for Diplomatic Breakthrough

As tensions persist, countries across the Middle East have expressed concern about the possibility of renewed fighting.

Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to the President of the United Arab Emirates, said his country hoped ongoing diplomatic efforts would produce a breakthrough but was also preparing for a possible escalation.

He warned that another round of conflict would not serve the interests of the region.

Meanwhile, residents in Tehran expressed mixed reactions to the possibility of renewed attacks, with some describing anxiety over the latest developments while others said they were accustomed to living amid prolonged tensions.

With diplomatic efforts yet to produce a lasting agreement, uncertainty remains over whether the United States and Iran can prevent another round of military confrontation.
