Canada’s Women’s Rugby Team Targets World Champions England at Home

Canada’s women’s rugby team is preparing to take on world champions England in front of a home crowd as the two sides begin the Rugby Rematch Tour.

The opening match is scheduled for Friday at BMO Field in Toronto, with another meeting set for October 23 at TD Place in Ottawa. More than 18,000 fans are expected in Toronto, potentially setting a North American attendance record for a standalone women’s rugby match.

Canada finished second to England at the 2025 Rugby World Cup, losing the final 33–13. However, the Canadians recently drew 26–26 with England in Exeter, ending the English team’s 39-match winning streak and giving Canada renewed confidence ahead of the home fixtures.

Several players have returned to the squad, including captain Sophie de Goede and Alysha Corrigan, who is set to make her first start since last year’s World Cup. Head coach Kevin Rouet says the team is balancing competitiveness with the development of players for the next phase of its campaign.

For Canada, the upcoming matches offer an opportunity to test its progress against the world’s top-ranked team and turn recent improvements into a significant home victory.
