Two Canadians Charged With Illegal Voting in 2022 and 2024 U.S. Elections

Two Canadians Charged With Illegal Voting in 2022 and 2024 U.S. Elections

Two Canadian citizens have been charged in the United States over allegations that they illegally voted in the 2022 and 2024 elections while living in Wisconsin.

According to a statement released on Thursday by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Wisconsin, both individuals voted in their respective cities despite being Canadian citizens.

Canadian Woman Charged Over Two Elections

One of the defendants, 60-year-old Monique Gignac-Yochum, formerly of Hayward, Wisconsin, is accused of voting in both the 2022 and 2024 U.S. elections.

Prosecutors said she cast her votes on November 8, 2022, during the U.S. midterm elections, and November 5, 2024, during the presidential election.

If convicted, Gignac-Yochum faces up to one year in prison.

Second Defendant Accused of False Citizenship Claim

The second defendant, 66-year-old Rodger Dedrick of Stoughton, is accused of voting in the November 5, 2024 election and falsely claiming to be a U.S. citizen when registering to vote on August 13, 2024.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Dedrick faces up to five years in prison if convicted of the false voter registration charge, in addition to a possible one-year prison sentence for the illegal voting charge.

Both Defendants Released Pending Proceedings

Both Canadians made their first appearances in federal court during the week and were released while awaiting further proceedings.

The charges are allegations, and both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
