Toronto Police Identify Suspect in Bridle Path Home Invasion That Injured Four Family Members

Toronto police have identified one of three suspects wanted in connection with a violent home invasion in the city's Bridle Path neighbourhood that left four members of a family injured. Investigators say the suspect was also shot during the attack and remains at large.

Police identified the suspect on Saturday as 23-year-old Daijohn Richards of Toronto. Investigators believe one of his accomplices shot him in the right shoulder during the incident.

According to police, Richards later attended St. Joseph’s Health Centre for treatment. Hospital staff notified authorities in line with Ontario’s mandatory gunshot-wound reporting protocol.

He was discharged late Thursday morning, but police said investigators did not establish his connection to the home invasion until Friday evening. Officers said forensic investigations and community enquiries helped link him to the incident.

Richards is now wanted on a Canada-wide warrant. Police say he may still be experiencing pain or discomfort from the gunshot wound and have urged him to contact a lawyer and surrender.

He faces several charges, including four counts each of discharging a firearm with intent to wound and robbery with a firearm, three counts of aggravated assault, as well as break and enter, possession of a prohibited device and disguise with intent.

The other two suspects have not been identified. Police describe all three as armed and dangerous and have warned the public not to approach them.

Four Family Members Injured in Home Invasion

The attack happened at approximately 3:45 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, when three masked suspects armed with handguns and a hammer allegedly forced their way into a home on Hyde Park Circle.

Police said the suspects confronted a husband, wife and their two adult daughters before demanding valuables. An altercation followed, during which several shots were fired.

Three victims, a 75-year-old man and two women aged 26 and 28, sustained gunshot wounds. The man and a 64-year-old woman were also struck with a hammer.

All four family members were taken to hospital, with two initially reported to have life-threatening injuries. Police said on Saturday that some of the victims had since been discharged.

David Morton, a Toronto real estate executive, and his wife, Doriana Zohil-Morton, were among those inside the home. Morton described the incident as a terrifying and life-threatening experience, saying members of his family were recovering in hospital.

Police Increase Presence in Neighbourhood

Toronto police say investigators are continuing to pursue leads to identify and locate the remaining suspects. Residents can also expect an increased police presence in the area while the investigation continues.

The incident was the 119th home invasion reported to Toronto police so far in 2026, representing a 32.2 per cent increase compared with the same period last year.

Police are appealing to anyone with information about the suspects or their whereabouts to come forward.
