President Bola Tinubu has criticised opposition figures Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, questioning their leadership records and political decisions during an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in Akwa Ibom State.
Speaking to party supporters on Friday, Tinubu took a swipe at Obi over the erosion crisis in Anambra State during his tenure as governor, contrasting it with his own efforts to address coastal challenges in Lagos State.
Tinubu Criticises Obi Over Anambra Erosion
Although he did not mention Obi by name, the President referred to the former Anambra governor as a presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing him of failing to tackle erosion in the state.
“He ran away from erosion in Anambra State. And he said he want to be a president. Which president?” Tinubu said.
He compared Obi's record with what he described as his own efforts to confront the Atlantic Ocean in Lagos, while also praising Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno for addressing erosion challenges in the state.
President Questions Atiku's Political Loyalty
Tinubu also criticised former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar over his movement between political parties, questioning his leadership and loyalty.
Atiku, who is the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), was previously a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The President questioned his decision to leave the PDP and join the ADC, describing the move as evidence of what he considers a lack of leadership character.
“They lack the leadership and character,” Tinubu said, adding that Atiku could not put his political house in order.
Tinubu Praises APC Leadership
The President also defended the APC, describing it as a party with members whose experience and leadership qualities distinguish it from opposition parties.
He cited former APC National Chairman Umar Ganduje and other party leaders as examples of individuals who had helped build unity within the ruling party.
Tinubu's remarks come amid growing political activity ahead of the 2027 general election, with opposition parties positioning themselves for a contest against the ruling APC.
