The National Sports Commission (NSC) has reaffirmed Dr Chukwudi Dimkpa as the substantive President of the Karate Federation of Nigeria, ending months of uncertainty over the federation's leadership.
The confirmation was contained in a letter dated November 2, 2026, addressed to the President of the Union of African Karate Federations, following repeated requests for clarification from the continental body.
NSC Concludes Leadership Review
The Union of African Karate Federations had written to the Commission on June 15 and September 16, 2026, seeking clarification on who legitimately leads the Nigerian federation.
In its initial response on June 26, the NSC said issues surrounding the federation's administrative structure were still under review and promised to communicate a final position after the process.
Following what it described as a comprehensive review of the National Sports Federation Elections held on October 25, 2025, the Commission confirmed Dimkpa's position.
“Pursuant to a comprehensive review of the National Sports Federation Elections of 25th October 2025, the National Sports Commission hereby confirms that Mr Chukwudi Dimkpa remains the duly recognized and substantive President of the Karate Federation of Nigeria,” the letter stated.
Focus Shifts to Administrative Stability
The Commission reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability and good governance, while expressing its desire to maintain cordial relations with the continental body in advancing karate across Africa.
The correspondence was signed by Kabir Yusuf on behalf of the Chairman of the National Sports Commission.
The decision provides formal clarification on the leadership recognised by Nigeria's sports authority and is expected to guide the federation's representation at national, continental and international events.
Attention is now expected to focus on aligning administrative records and strengthening cooperation between the Karate Federation of Nigeria, the continental body and other international karate institutions.
