Sudan: Drone Strike Kills 41 Near Ethiopian Border, Rights Group Says

A drone strike attributed to Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has killed 41 people at a camp for displaced people in the Blue Nile region near the Ethiopian border, according to the rights group Emergency Lawyers.

The attack reportedly occurred on Friday in the Abu Shandi area. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said it was appalled by reports of the strike, adding that initial information indicated women and children made up most of the casualties.

The incident comes amid Sudan’s ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF, which began in 2023. The fighting has killed hundreds of thousands of people and displaced more than 14 million, creating one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises.

Both sides have faced accusations of using drone attacks. The UN has also warned that repeated attacks in the area have displaced thousands of civilians and exposed others to further danger.
