The Zamfara State Police Command says security operatives have repelled an attempted bandit attack on Bukuyum town in Bukuyum Local Government Area, following a gun battle that reportedly left over 30 suspected bandits dead.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, October 31, 2026, noting that the bodies were discovered in surrounding farmlands after the confrontation.
Police Repel Attack After Gun Battle
According to the statement, the clearance operation began on October 28 after armed bandits attempted to attack the community.
Police operatives, working alongside local civil security groups, engaged the attackers in a fierce exchange of gunfire, preventing them from gaining access to the town.
The Command said the discovery of more than 30 suspected bandit bodies in nearby farmlands suggested that the attackers may have suffered significant casualties. However, it stressed that the actual number of those killed had not been independently verified, adding that bandits often evacuate casualties from battle locations.
Security Operations to Continue
The police said the successful defence of Bukuyum prevented potential loss of lives, destruction of property and further displacement of residents.
It added that preliminary security assessments indicated that continued pressure from security operations had forced some remaining armed bandits to flee the state.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining clearance operations in collaboration with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders, with the aim of eliminating criminal activities and restoring public confidence.
It also assured residents that efforts would continue to protect communities and improve security across Zamfara State.
