Morocco’s King Mohammed VI has called for urgent action to address the challenges facing young people, urging public institutions to put jobs, education and healthcare at the centre of government policies.
Speaking in Rabat on Friday as he opened a new parliamentary session, the king’s message came months after youth-led protests exposed growing frustration over unemployment, limited opportunities and demands for better public services.
He urged the government to create a new generation of economic strategies, attract more private investment and expand skills development to help young Moroccans build better futures.
“Youth-related issues must be placed at the forefront of public policies,” the king said, stressing the need for equal opportunities and stronger economic inclusion.
Beyond domestic concerns, Mohammed VI defended Morocco’s partnership with Spain following a wave of migration into the Spanish territory of Ceuta in July. He announced plans for a new cooperation framework focused on economic growth, shared development and regional stability.
The king also called for faster transfers of powers and resources to regional authorities, alongside stronger water, energy and food security.
However, opposition lawmakers say the real test will be whether these commitments lead to concrete changes in the lives of ordinary Moroccans, particularly young people seeking jobs and better public services.
