Eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi has reflected on his successful years at Barcelona, saying the team was fortunate not only to win major trophies but also to enjoy the style of football and the journey behind its achievements.
The Argentine forward said the memories he shared with his former teammates remain special, adding that his emotional connection to the Spanish club and its city will endure.
Messi Remembers Barcelona’s Success
According to football journalist Fabrizio Romano in a post on X on Thursday, Messi praised the team’s achievements and the enjoyment they experienced playing together.
“In Barcelona, we were lucky to win everything… not only because of what we achieved, but also because of the way we did it, and how much we enjoyed playing, winning, and achieving important milestones,” he said.
He added that the team cherished the memorable moments they shared during their successful spell together.
“Barcelona means a lot to me. I feel special love for the city, the club. It will always be like this,” Messi said.
A Lasting Barcelona Legacy
Messi joined Barcelona’s senior team in 2004 and became one of the club’s most celebrated players, helping it win multiple La Liga titles and UEFA Champions League trophies while earning numerous individual honours.
His time at the club ended in 2021 after Barcelona was unable to renew his contract amid financial difficulties. His departure brought an end to a senior career at the club spanning more than 16 years.
Despite moving on, Messi’s latest comments highlight his lasting affection for Barcelona and the memories created during one of the most successful periods in the club’s history.
