Manchester United Boss Michael Carrick Under Pressure Ahead of Bournemouth Clash

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick is expected to remain in charge for Sunday's Premier League clash against Bournemouth, despite growing concerns among club officials over the team's poor form.

The match could prove pivotal for Carrick's future, with pressure mounting following United's disappointing 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League on Wednesday. However, no decision has been made regarding the manager's position beyond Sunday's fixture.

Club Concerns Grow Over Poor Performances

Reports indicate that officials at United's Carrington training ground were unhappy with the team's performance against Como, which Carrick himself described as unacceptable.

Although the manager has received some sympathy over the squad's injury problems, there are concerns that the team has performed below expectations despite being considered stronger than last season's squad.

United's directors reportedly assessed several managerial candidates in January before appointing Carrick. While there has been no confirmed formal contact with those candidates recently, further discussions have not been ruled out.

Fernandes Unlikely to Face Disciplinary Action

Meanwhile, captain Bruno Fernandes is unlikely to be punished for criticising the coaching staff and tactics following the heavy defeat in Italy.

Despite disappointment within the club over his comments, reports suggest officials understand his frustration with the team's performance. Fernandes is also not expected to lose the captaincy.

Defender Lisandro Martinez previously questioned whether the squad was strong enough to compete at the highest level, directing his criticism towards the club's hierarchy rather than Carrick.

Sunday's meeting with Bournemouth is therefore expected to be an important test for United as the club weighs its concerns over results against the challenges facing the manager.
