Man Charged After Calgary Tourists Attacked Following Bruno Mars Concert in Vancouver

A 34-year-old man has been arrested and charged after two tourists from Calgary were allegedly assaulted in downtown Vancouver following a Bruno Mars concert.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. on Wednesday after the man and woman attended one of five sold-out Bruno Mars concerts at B.C. Place, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

Police Officer Witnesses Altercation

Police said an officer patrolling near Gastown witnessed an altercation involving the tourists and a suspect.

According to a police statement, the suspect allegedly struck the male tourist on the arm with a sharp object believed to be glass. The impact reportedly pushed the female tourist into a nearby light pole.

The man sustained a cut to his forearm and received treatment from paramedics at the scene.

Suspect Faces Three Charges

The officer intervened and safely handcuffed the suspect, whom police identified as Derek Dale Driscoll, 34.

Police said Driscoll was also wanted on two outstanding warrants related to alleged probation breaches and failure to attend court.

He has been charged with assault, assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon. He remained in custody on Thursday afternoon pending a bail hearing.
