Veteran Nigerian rapper Olusegun Osaniyi, popularly known as Lord of Ajasa, has become a United States citizen.
The pioneer Yoruba rapper shared photos and videos of himself holding his American citizenship certificate, including a photograph with his wife and the American flag.
The milestone has attracted congratulatory messages from fellow artistes, music producers, fans and other Nigerians, while also renewing conversations about his contribution to the growth of indigenous Nigerian hip-hop.
Lord of Ajasa is widely recognised as one of the early artistes who helped bring Yoruba-language rap into Nigeria’s mainstream music scene. Songs such as Le Fenu So, Esha Lo Bade and Mai Lo remain part of conversations about the early era of Yoruba hip-hop.
His naturalisation has also brought renewed attention to a career that has remained influential in discussions about the evolution of Nigerian rap.
