Nigerian entertainer Kokopee, a close friend of social media activist VeryDarkMan (VDM), has explained how he became caught in the middle of the disagreement between the activist and Afrobeats singer Davido.
Kokopee spoke after facing criticism from Nigerians online over his alleged silence during the dispute, with some questioning his claim that Davido personally contacted him about the matter.
How Kokopee Became Involved
According to Kokopee, he was not involved when Davido and VDM initially became friends or when the singer invited the activist to Lagos. However, he became involved after disagreements emerged between the two.
He said VDM contacted him to complain about something Davido had allegedly done. Kokopee advised the activist to reach out to Israel or Ubi, while Davido also contacted him to discuss the situation.
Kokopee explained that he attempted to help Davido understand why VDM felt betrayed, but the singer reportedly disagreed with his explanation.
He further claimed that VDM later questioned why he was involving himself in Davido's affairs and asked whether the singer had promised him a free music collaboration.
Kokopee Defends His Position
Kokopee said he eventually stepped back from the disagreement to avoid being accused of betraying his friendship with VDM.
He added that although he privately advises the activist to handle his friendship with Davido carefully, he cannot force two adults to resolve their differences.
Addressing those who doubted that Davido contacted him, Kokopee insisted that he had not disclosed the details of their private conversation.
“I did not disclose the content of my chat with Davido, and Davido is not too big to message me,” he said.
He also responded to his critics, declaring, “I'm only humble, not hungry,” while challenging those questioning his claim to explain why they believed he was too insignificant for the singer to contact.
