The Federal Government has commenced the disbursement of ₦50,000 cash relief to vulnerable Nigerians under its National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI).
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro, announced the development in a statement issued on October 30, describing the programme as a presidential initiative aimed at providing immediate financial support to households facing rising living costs.
Beneficiaries to Receive ₦50,000 Monthly
Doro said eligible beneficiaries would receive ₦50,000 monthly to help them meet essential needs and cope with increasing food prices and the cost of basic goods.
He added that the intervention would be reviewed regularly to reflect changes in the cost of living, with beneficiaries notified before any adjustments are made.
According to the minister, the government is working with licensed digital financial service providers to ensure secure and transparent payments.
How Beneficiaries Will Receive Payments
The ministry said selected beneficiaries would receive text messages from approved financial service providers requesting their consent before payments are processed directly into their bank accounts or mobile wallets.
Meanwhile, the Youth Economic Intervention and De-radicalisation Programme (YEIDEP) said payments were ongoing, with beneficiaries receiving notifications through their registered phone numbers.
It advised individuals whose eligibility status showed “NOT SELECTED” to remain patient and await further updates on subsequent batches. However, it did not guarantee that everyone with that status would eventually receive the grant.
FG Warns Against Grant Scams
Doro stressed that beneficiaries were not required to submit new applications, pay fees or register through agents to access the financial support.
He warned Nigerians against fraudsters and advised them not to disclose their personal identification numbers or Bank Verification Numbers to unauthorised individuals.
The minister urged anyone uncertain about a payment notification or asked to pay money to contact the official NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222.
