Elon Musk Pledges SpaceX Shares for Every Child in the US Next Year

Elon Musk, the world’s richest person, has pledged to give every child in the United States a share in SpaceX, the aerospace company he leads, in 2027.

Musk announced the proposed giveaway in a post on X, saying he would give one SpaceX share to every American child next year. However, he did not provide details about how the distribution would work or specify the age limit for eligible recipients.

Proposed Giveaway Could Be Worth Billions

According to the report, SpaceX is valued at nearly $2 trillion, with a single share worth approximately $150 at the time of the announcement.

US Census data puts the number of Americans under 18 at about 73 million. Based on that population and the reported share price, distributing one share to each child could amount to nearly $11 billion.

With Musk’s net worth estimated at $908.5 billion by Fortune, the proposed giveaway would represent about 1.2 per cent of his estimated wealth.

What SpaceX Does

SpaceX develops and operates spacecraft and has deployed thousands of satellites to support Starlink, its satellite internet service.

The company also oversees xAI, which operates an artificial intelligence chatbot competing with ChatGPT and Claude.

Despite Musk’s announcement, key questions remain unanswered, including how children would receive the shares, how eligibility would be determined and whether any conditions would apply. Further details are yet to be announced.
