A forensic investigator with Nigeria’s State Security Service (SSS), Segun Kayode, has told the Kaduna State High Court that former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and his associates allegedly discussed setting aside $600,000 to influence officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to the investigator, the alleged arrangement involved $500,000 and an additional $100,000 intended for EFCC officials and intermediaries. He also referred to recordings in which individuals allegedly discussed obstructing an investigation involving Singularity and the liquidation of the company in Nigeria and Mauritius.
However, defence counsel Paul Erokoro challenged the testimony, arguing that details about the evidence were not included in the proof of evidence. The judge overruled the objection, allowing the testimony to proceed subject to cross-examination.
The case has been adjourned until November 30 and December 1, 2026. El-Rufai, who has been in ICPC custody since February, has denied wrongdoing and pleaded not guilty.
