Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu, arrived in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Saturday, two days after President Bola Tinubu ordered security agencies to rescue all abducted persons and eliminate terrorist and bandit camps across Nigeria.
Shuaibu arrived in the state capital at about 11 a.m. and is expected to meet with theatre, field and unit commanders across the state.
Tinubu Orders Intensified Security Operations
Minister of Defence Christopher Musa disclosed on October 15 that Tinubu issued the directive during a security meeting with service chiefs and other security heads at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Musa said the President directed security agencies to intensify efforts to locate and rescue everyone who had been kidnapped, stressing that no terrorist or bandit camp should be allowed to operate anywhere in the country.
The President also directed security chiefs to ensure a safe environment for Nigerians to participate in the elections scheduled for January.
It has not been confirmed whether Shuaibu’s visit to Maiduguri is directly connected to the presidential directive. Further details are expected.
