Actor Ray Adeka Criticises Tinubu Supporters Over Defence of Economic Reforms

Nigerian actor Ray Adeka has criticised supporters of President Bola Tinubu for defending the administration's economic reforms whenever Nigerians raise concerns about rising hardship and the cost of living.

In a video shared online, Adeka argued that government supporters often respond to criticism by listing the administration's policies rather than addressing the difficulties Nigerians are facing.

Actor Questions Tinubu's Economic Reforms

Adeka questioned why the removal of fuel subsidy, expansion of the tax bracket and floating of the naira were being presented as major achievements of the administration.

He specifically recalled the 2012 Occupy Nigeria protests, when Tinubu opposed the fuel subsidy removal proposed by the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Comparing the earlier position with the current government's policy, the actor said Nigerians should not be expected to celebrate a measure Tinubu had previously criticised.

“The same fuel subsidy that Jonathan tried to remove, that Tinubu was blatantly against its removal, that's what he wants us to celebrate,” Adeka said.

Adeka Raises Concerns Over Tax and Naira Policies

The actor also criticised the expansion of the tax bracket, arguing that it could bring more low-income Nigerians into the tax net.

He further questioned the floating of the naira, sarcastically describing the three policies as supposedly impressive reforms.

Adeka maintained that whenever Nigerians complain about economic hardship, supporters of the administration are quick to highlight its reforms without sufficiently addressing the impact of the policies on ordinary citizens.

“So anytime you attack this government and you talk about the Tinubu administration and how people are suffering, the people who support his government are quick to talk about the reforms. It's always grammar,” he said.
