US President Donald Trump has blamed the Democratic Party’s victory in the midterm elections for a sharp decline in the country’s stock market on Thursday.
In a post on his Truth Social platform after markets closed, Trump linked the selloff to the Democrats’ strong performance in Tuesday’s elections.
“The Stock Market crashed today because the Dumocrats had a big Tuesday — So sad to see, you only have yourselves to blame!” he wrote.
Analysts Point to AI Investment Concerns
However, market analysts attributed Thursday’s decline to concerns that Democrats could threaten the growing investment boom in artificial intelligence data centres.
The technology-focused Nasdaq recorded its worst percentage decline in a single session since April 2025, reflecting investor concerns over the future of the sector.
Data Centres Face Growing Opposition
Data centre projects have faced widespread opposition from American voters across political affiliations, with several candidates who won seats in the midterm elections pledging to restrict or slow down such developments.
The concerns have added uncertainty to the outlook for major investments in AI infrastructure, as the industry continues to expand across the United States.
Trump’s comments come amid political tensions following the Democrats’ electoral gains, which have increased scrutiny of his administration’s policies and economic direction.
