Ayra Starr’s Mother Criticises Social Media Influence on Gen Z

Nene Aderibigbe, mother of Nigerian singer Ayra Starr, has criticised the influence of social media on Generation Z, expressing concern that many young people are losing their ability to think independently.

Aderibigbe said the younger generation has become overly dependent on their phones and other people's opinions, rather than developing their own ideas and recognising their abilities.

Speaking about the issue, she said: “Social media has just turned a lot of things upside down. They don’t have their own thinking again; it is only people’s thinking they use now.”

Aderibigbe Raises Concern Over Young People's Potential

She argued that many members of Gen Z possess natural talents but struggle to recognise their abilities because of the influence of social media.

According to her, constant exposure to online opinions and trends may be affecting how young people see themselves and make decisions.

Advice to Young People

Aderibigbe encouraged young people to deliberately spend time away from their phones, reflect on their lives and practise meditation.

She advised them to put down their devices for at least two to three hours to create time for personal reflection and independent thinking.

“Take your time, drop your phone down for two, three hours, do mental note, put your head down, take a mental note or meditate,” she said.
